FL STudio 12.1.2 Review | Best Editing Software

What’s New In FL Studio 12.1.2?
Well, quite a bit actually. For seasoned FL users, some things might take a little getting used to, but fortunately the changes are mostly positive. I might as well begin with the most jarring alteration to FL’s near perfect plugin management system, which was a bit frustrating at first, but the good people at Image-Line took notice of a gathering storm of requests to put the “More Plugins” button back where it belongs at the very top of the Add/Channel submenu that opens a new Favoriting Window providing access to all our plugins all in one place! I can appreciate having the luxury of organising my plugin library with user configurable category tabs in the Browser, but having to manually add each and every plugin to the category slot becomes a tedious process for people with ample libraries, so it’s always nice to have our plugins stashed away in a single location.

FL Studio is available in four versions. Fruity ($99) is entirely for in-the-box music production, and lacks the ability to record or manipulate audio clips. It does include a good selection of synths and effect plug-ins, though, as well as automation support, the step sequencer, the piano roll, and the event editor. Producer ($199) adds the ability to record with microphones and edit or pitch audio clips, as well as the Sytrus synth. Signature ($299), the version I tested, adds the NewTone pitch correction and time editor, the full version of the DirectWave sampler, the slick Harmless additive and subtractive synth, a video player, and a few additional guitar and drum plug-ins. The All Plugins Bundle ($899) brings in a number of typically extra-cost Image-Line synths, like Poison, Morphine, and the physical modeling-based Sakura for unique string-instrument sounds.
